Two days after Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan tore into YSRCP leaders while holding a slipper in his hand, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, in his first public reaction, hit back at the actor-turned-politician for stooping to a new low in hurling abuses.

Even a rowdy would hesitate in using such expletives, he said at a public meeting at Avanigadda in Krishna district on Thursday, 20 October, even as he expressed surprise over Kalyan and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu coming together to take on a single person — him.

In a scathing attack on the two Opposition parties, the chief minister took strong objection to their abusive language, contending that they have no achievements to narrate to the people, while the government, on the other hand, is pursuing its welfare agenda.

He said that while the state is going ahead with the three-capitals plan keeping in mind decentralisation and development of all areas equally, self-proclaimed leaders are advocating “three marriages” and shamelessly unleashing torrents of invectives, brandishing footwear publicly on TV channels.

TDP’s ‘adopted son’

The chief minister wondered whether such leaders can be of any help to the people.

“What would happen to the self-respect of our women if these leaders are to be followed,” he asked. “Such leaders, who have nothing great to claim, cannot guide people and society. It is very clear that Chandrababu Naidu has instigated his adopted son,” he said.

“Back-stabbers and leaders who change colours like chameleons at election time, and their friendly media, have ganged up against the government by forming unholy alliances to take on me, lone Jagan,” the YSRCP supremo added.

Observing that the next 19 months will witness a continuous war between the pro-people government and the “yellow gangsters” (a reference to the TDP) who have formed opportunistic alliances, the chief minister expressed confidence that people will stand by him to thwart their attempts.

“It is going to be a full-blown war between the poor and the capitalists, between good and evil, and between advocates of social justice and the people dividing the society,” said the chief minister.

Asking the people to keep away from slanderous propaganda, he said they should introspect whether they benefitted or not by the welfare schemes of the government.

Asserting that he is not depending on the media, dirty policies or adopted sons, he said that he is only depending on each and everyone in the state who benefited from the welfare policies of the government.

Pawan calls YSRCP leaders dimwits

Ever since Pawan Kalyan had lashed out at YSRCP and also met Naidu, the Andhra Pradesh political scene has hotted up.

The Jana Sena supremo had targeted Kapu MLAs of the ruling party, stating that they have been doing slavery for YS Jagan. While Pawan Kalyan belongs to a numerically strong Kapu community, he often comes under attack from the YSRCP MLAs from the community.

His three marriages often come in for criticism by the YSRCP leaders. They also keep calling him a “package star” and ridicule him for “working at the behest of Naidu” whenever he is in a political crisis — all in consideration for a “package”.

Calling the YSRCP leaders idiots, useless, and dimwits on Tuesday while addressing his cadres at his party headquarters in Mangalagiri, Pawan Kalyan warned them showing his slipper that he would slap them on either cheek if he is called a “package star”.

Continuing in a similar vein, he said he would strangle YSRCP leaders and was ready to fight them on the streets, with either hockey sticks or his bare hands.

Historic land survey

Meanwhile, at the Avanigadda meeting, held to distribute land pattas to eligible beneficiaries, Jagan Mohan Reddy emphasised that the next 18 months will be a battle between the rich and the poor in the state.

“Even after 75 years of independence, people are still facing problems in the registration of lands. Due to lack of clarity, they are still making rounds to offices and courts for years,” he said.

Jagan said that his pro-poor government had now decided to carry out a comprehensive land survey across the state to put an end to this menace. This survey is the first in Andhra Pradesh in over 100 years.

“No such survey has been conducted in the state in the last 100 years. The latest technology will be
used to ensure records are made transparent, which will bring an end to land disputes.

“As many as 15,000 surveyors have been recruited for this purpose and resurveying the lands will be done with the latest technology at the expense of crores of rupees. We will also be using planes, helicopters, drones, and rovers and marking the correct boundaries, updating the records, and giving the right documents to the deserving ones,” Jagan explained.

Elaborating on the survey, the chief minister said, “We are going to start the survey in November in 1,500 villages. Every month we will add more villages and ensure that we complete the process in 1,700 villages by next year. We will bring the sub-registrar office to villages to ensure quick redressal of issues.”

Denotification of lands

In what will be a huge relief to the poor, the chief minister announced that the state government had cleared all the pending files related to the denotification of land falling under Section-22A(1).

“We are lifting the prohibition on sale of lands in 355 villages across the state. 35,669 acres of land will be open for registration. For Avanigadda alone, 15,791 acres of land will be free from prohibition from today,” Jagan stated.

The chief minister then highlighted how the previous government had failed to stand with the poor over resolving the issue of land ownership.

Governor nod to CRDA Act

In a related development, Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan gave his assent to the amendments to the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Act, 2014, and Metropolitan Region and Urban Development Authorities (MRUDA) Act, 2016.

After these amendments, all Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) from anywhere in the state can avail the benefits of the housing schemes of the state or Union government in Amaravati.

Earlier, the benefits of such housing schemes were restricted to villagers covered by the capital city and the capital region area. The state government can now also introduce changes in the perspective plan, master and infrastructure plans and area and zonal development plans to further develop Amaravati.
