The 32-year-old man who was found freely roaming during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Mumbai two days ago is said to have claimed he was the personal assistant (PA) of Chinta Anuradha, the Lok Sabha member from Amalapuram in Andhra Pradesh.

The incident exposed a major security lapse during Shah’s visit to Mumbai.

Though the visit concluded on Tuesday, the security lapse came to light on Thursday, 8 September.

The Mumbai Police had identified the miscreant as one Hemant Pawar, and had picked him up and interrogated him.

It was during this interrogation that the man claimed he was the PA of the MP from Andhra Pradesh.

Pawar apparently hails from Dhule in Maharashtra.

“During the interrogation, he told the Mumbai Police he was the PA of Amalapuram MP Chintha Anuradha. When the police checked the veracity of his claims, it was found that he worked as an intern in some programme at the Amalapuram MP’s office. He worked in a similar capacity with a few Maharashtra MPs,” intelligence sources told South First.

Pawar, wearing an MHA tag, roamed freely around at least two venues that Shah visited, and was seen freely interacting with the local politicians.

One of the officers on security duty, who grew suspicious about his antecedents, asked him for identification.

It is then that Pawar claimed he was the PA of an Andhra Pradesh MP.

Two days later, the Mumbai police tracked down Pawar and arrested him.

Chinta Anuradha is a first-time MP from Amalapuram in Andhra Pradesh. She represents the YSRCP — which is currently in power in the state — and is also the party’s coordinator in Parliament.
