Out in the theatres on Friday, 9 September, Oke Oka Jeevitham is a sci-fi drama featuring Sharwanand, Ritu Verma, Amala Akkineni, and Nassar in the lead roles.

Directed by Shree Karthick, the movie piqued the interests of everyone after its trailer revealed that the storyline was about time travel.

More often than not, we want to fix our past mistakes. However, we do know that it is beyond impossible. But what if we get a chance to do so? That’s what Oke Oka Jeevitham is all about.

Close friends Adi (Sharwanand), Sreenu (Vennela Kishore), and Chaitu (Priyadarshi) have a set of personal issues to deal with, and want to rectify their past.

One fine day, they come across a scientist (Nassar) who promises to take them back to 1998 with the help of the time machine he has invented. But here comes the twist in the tale: The younger versions of the trio from 1998 visit the future using the same time machine!

What will they do now? Will the younger ones choose to go back to their time? Will the adults return to the present? Watch the movie to find answers to these questions.

Shree Karthick does justice to the concept

To date, many films have been made against the backdrop of time travel. But Oke Oka Jeevitham stands out in many aspects.

Since the trailer launch, people have been curious to see how Shree Karthick handles the subject differently, now that Balakrishna’s popular 1991-film Aditya 369 had already set a benchmark in this genre.

But I must say, Shree Karthick did do justice to the concept. He was effortless while narrating the present and the past simultaneously, without confusing the audience.

He added a generous dose of comedy and emotions, which complemented the plot and became the major highlights of the movie.

Finest performances by the cast

Amala, as Sharwanand’s mother, gives one of her finest performances. Indeed, Oke Oka Jeevitham can be defined as her comeback to mainstream cinema after about a decade.

She did appear in guest roles in Life is Beautiful (2012), Karwaan (Hindi-2018), and The Forgotten Army-Azaadi Ke Liye (Hindi web series-2021), besides cameo appearances in Manam (2014), and Hamari Adhuri Kahani (Hindi-2015) though.

However, this project lets the world know, once again, what an amazing actor she is. Most of her scenes with Sharwanand make us emotional.

As for Sharwanand, he has proved his mettle as an actor, time and again. With Oke Oka Jeevitham, he yet again proves that he’s a sensible actor.

He gives his best in emotional scenes, especially in the climax part with Amala. You will leave the cinema hall with a feel-good experience.

Vennela Kishore’s comedy is the biggest asset of the flick. Without going overboard, he nails his performance and ensured that we are entertained. His scenes spark a laugh riot among viewers.

Priyadarshi appears in a supporting role and does a good job. Ritu Varma doesn’t get much screen space, but she leaves her mark.

Nassar, as a scientist, brings depth to the proceedings. The three kids who played younger Sharwanand, Priyadarshi, and Vennela Kishore are superb in their respective roles.

Engaging narrative, superb VFX

The first half of the film is quite interesting and entertaining. It engages the audience with its gripping narration. The second half is loaded with emotional scenes. Logic and scientific issues are handled with a lot of research.

However, the flick is slow-paced and takes its sweet time to get to the actual plot. A faster screenplay would have made it more interesting.

A few questions are left unanswered, though. The director should have worked on the script or the editing to avoid this.

As for the technicalities, time travelling has been handled superbly with the help of VFX. Kudos to the art department for creating such a masterpiece: the time machine. The scenes from the 1990s are convincing, too, all thanks to the artwork.

The production design and the quality are top-notch. Director Shree Karthick and producers SR Prakashbabu-SR Prabhu deserve all the credit for making a wonderful film like Oke Oka Jeevitham.

Though there are a few flaws, the director impresses us with his filmmaking skills. His grip on emotions and comedy is worth all the praise.

On the whole, this science fiction drama is worth all your time. The performances by the lead actors, an interesting backdrop, and production qualities make this a must-watch. Book your tickets today!
