Saturn Awards 2022: Rajamouli’s RRR bags three nominations

The magnum opus has been nominated in categories of action/adventure film, film direction, and international film.

Telugu filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s latest release RRR is in the news yet again.

The magnum opus has been nominated for the prestigious Saturn Awards 2022, given away by the Saturn Awards Organization (SAO). Incidentally, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the SAO.

Announcing the nominees on Saturday, 13 August, the SAO said that the winners will be declared on 25 October, through voting. The voting will be held from 15 August.

This time, the awards will be live streamed on the Electric Now app.

RRR has been nominated in three categories for the awards: Best action/adventure film, best film direction and best international film.

About the Saturn Awards Organization

The SAO holds official screenings of nearly 100 films every year for its members to list out the nominees. It is the official group of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films.

It was founded in 1972 by Donald A Reed, a scholar, educator (Woodbury University), librarian (California Institute of the Arts), and film critic.

Reed was also the founder of other societies like The Count Dracula Society, The Academy of Family Films and Television, and the Council of Film Organizations. He breathed his last in 2001.

RRR’s many accolades

RRR recently won accolades from the likes of Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange), James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and the Russo Brothers (The Gray Man).

It has been the runner-up in the best picture category at the 5th Hollywood Critics Association Midseason Film Awards, which took place in Avalon Hollywood, California.

Made on a budget of ₹550 crore, the mega-blockbuster reportedly registered a whopping box-office collection of over ₹1,200 crore worldwide.

It featured Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Aliya Bhatt, Shriya Saran and Samuthirakani in lead roles. It was written by renowned screenwriter-filmmaker Vijayendra Prasad and produced by DVV Danayya of DVV Entertainment.
