Two South Indian airports — Bengaluru and Hyderabad — have for the second time in a row ranked among Skytrax’s World’s Top 100 airports.

Two other Indian airports are on the list: those in Delhi and Mumbai.

The rankings were made public at the 24th edition of the World Airport Awards 2022, organised by Skytrax, a UK-based airline and airport review consultancy.

The event was held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in France’s capital Paris on 16 June.

Bengaluru moved up 10 ranks in the list, from 71 last year to 61 this year.

Hyderabad moved up by one spot, from 64 to 63.

The Delhi airport, adjudged the best India, improved its rank by five places, from 45 in 2021 to 37 in 2022.

Mumbai retained its position at 65.

Best staff award to Hyderabad

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport of Hyderabad was also awarded the “Best Airport Staff in India & South Asia”.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport was voted the “Best Regional Airport in India & South Asia” at the event.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport received the award for the “Cleanest Airport in India and South Asia”.

The Doha Hamad in Qatar, Tokyo Haneda in Japan, and Singapore Changi in Singapore retained their positions in the top three ranks.

The Tokyo Narita in Japan, climbing one place from number 5 in 2021, bagged the fourth position, whereas Seoul Incheon moved one place down, and was awarded the fifth position.

Voted by customers

The Skytrax World Airport Awards — started in 1999 — are given based on the customer votes in an annual global airport customer satisfaction survey.

The consultancy releases the airport awards in as many as 25 categories ranging from the “Best New Airport” to the “Best Domestic Airport” to even the “Most Improved Airport”.

Awards are also given to airports with the best dining and shopping facilities.

Customer services, facilities, and hygiene are assessed in what is said to be a survey of 550 airports globally.

The survey and awards are independent of any airport control or inputs, claims Skytrax.
