The third case of Monkeypox in India was reported in Kerala on Friday, 22 July.
The latest case was reported in a UAE returnee to the Malappuram district of the state.
According to the Kerala Health Department, the 35-year-old man returned from the UAE on 6 July.
“The UAE returnee developed a fever on 13 July and Monkeypox symptoms were clearly visible on 15 July,” said the department.
A statement from the health department said the man was being treated at an isolation ward in the Manjeri Medical College hospital in Malappuram.
“People who came in close connection with the patient have also been isolated,” the department added.
The first case of Monkeypox was reported in the Kollam district on 14 July.
The patient is currently undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.
The second Monkeypox case was reported from the Kannur district on 18 July.
According to the Health Department, the 31-year-old patient, who arrived from Dubai on 13 July, was admitted to the Pariyaram Medical College hospital the next day after he developed rashes on his body.
He tested positive for Monkeypox on 18 July.
According to health officials, Monkeypox is not as deadly as Covid-19 as it spreads after coming in direct contact with the infectious rash, scabs or body fluids, respiratory secretions during prolonged face-to-face contact or during intimate physical contact or touching items used by patients.
