A special court in Hyderabad on Wednesday, 10 August, sentenced a 26-year-old man to two years in prison for sexually harassing a minor.
The court also slapped a fine of ₹10,000 on the convict in the six-year-old case that was registered at Vanasthalipuram police station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Kolthuri Umakar Reddy is a residence of the Mansoorabad area on the outskirts of Hyderabad in the Rangareddy district.

The case dates back to 14 January, 2016, when the victim, a 17-year-old girl, registered a complaint with Vanasthalipuram police station, accusing Reddy, then 19-year-old, of harassing her.
The court found him guilty under IPC Sections 354 D (follow to foster personal interaction despite clear indication of disinterest by a woman) and section 12 (punishment for sexual harassment) of the POCSO Act.
The victim in her complaint to the police had mentioned that the convict and her parents used to work at a function hall.
She added that Reddy then befriended her and sexually harassed her under the pretext of love.
Despite the victim’s disinterest, Reddy continued with his actions and even threw a love letter at her while she was taking a bath.
