Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister MK Stalin tests positive for Covid-19

After being tested positive for Covid-19, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has requested people to wear masks and get vaccinated.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, 12 July, and has isolated himself.

Soon after being tested positive, he posted on Twitter: “I was feeling a bit tired today. Tests confirmed that I am Covid-19 positive. I have isolated myself.”

In his tweet, he requested the people to wear masks. “Let’s all wear masks, get vaccinated, and stay safe,” his tweet read.

Tamil Nadu has been witnessing a surge in new Covid-19 cases over the last few weeks.

On Monday, the state reported a marginal decline in daily infections, with 2,671 new cases, including five returnees from overseas.

The overall tally to date is 34,98,992, the health department said on Saturday.

According to the department, the overall death toll of the state remained unchanged at 38,028, with no fresh fatalities reported.

Around 2,516 people have recuperated from the virus in the last 24 hours. The total number of active cases in the state is 18,842.

A total of 844 cases were recorded in Chennai, 465 cases were reported from neighbouring Chengalpattu, 161 in Tiruvallur, 118 in Coimbatore, and 112 in Tirunelveli.

The state capital leads with 7,134 active cases, and an overall 7,70,636 cases.

The latest health bulletin claimed that a total of 33,286 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative tests to 6,74,33,325 to date.
