Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan saves life mid-air.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan is being lauded online for providing critical treatment to a passenger on a New Delhi-Hyderabad Indigo flight on the night of Friday, 22 June.

Soundararajan, who was returning to Hyderabad from Delhi, was alerted by an SOS announcement seeking the help of doctors to treat a passenger on board.

She tweeted that she rushed to the rear of the aircraft to see a passenger sweating profusely and showing symptoms of indigestion.

First aid

“Made him lie flat. Checked vitals with first aid and supportive drugs and assurance. There was a smile on his face as much as on co-passengers, [sic]” wrote the governor.

After arriving in Hyderabad, the passenger was taken to the airport medical centre in a wheelchair.

Meanwhile, Soundararajan praised the on-air IndiGo air hostess and staff for timely alert and facilitation.

Suggestion for airline

Soundararajan also advised the IndiGo flight staff to ensure a first-aid kit is available on all flights, and its contents verified daily.

She suggested that details of doctors travelling could be collected well in advance to attend emergency calls.

She noted that she was able to help because she was awake at the time to take the call even though it was 4 am mid-air.

Soundararajan also advised the airline to train onboard crew members in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to help the sick on the flight.

“I advise even citizens to take a formal CPR training to save others in emergencies, [sic]” she added.

Soundararajan was praised by fellow passengers for her quick thinking and for saving the life of the passenger.

IndiGo thanked the governor for her “selfless contribution” and called her a superhero.
