At a time when everyone had thought they had seen the last of rains, the skies opened up, drenching Hyderabad on Friday, 22 July.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains for the next few days.

The officials in north Telangana districts have been asked to be alert as heavy rains are likely.

The Nalgonda, Karimnagar, and Nizamabad districts have recorded heavy rainfall.

The other parts that are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall include Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Jangoan, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Khammam, Mahabubabad, and Warangal.

Traffic police warning

The Hyderabad Traffic Police have warned people against coming out of their homes without any compelling reason.

The commuters, caught off guard, had a horrendous time on Friday navigating the swirling waters that collect in no time on roads, submerging them quickly.

Those stuck at various places were asked to wait, even after the rain ceased, to prevent traffic snarls.

The police also advised those at home to use public transport instead of their vehicles if they come out.

Hyderabad witnessed rains since Friday morning under the influence of a trough that had formed over Telangana.

The thickly overcast sky promised more rain by nightfall.

The most affected areas include Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar, and Amberpet.

Fruit market flooded

Meanwhile, the fruit market at Batasingaram fell victim to the rain.

The market was flooded with rainwater, and a good quantity of fruit is reported to have been washed away.

The merchants rued the fact that the government had shifted them out to Koheda near Batasingaram without creating any facilities at Kothapet to facilitate the construction of a hospital there.
