An 18-year-old girl fearing NEET exams died by suicide in Tamil Nadu.

An 18-year-old National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2022 aspirant died by suicide in Ariyalur district in Tamil Nadu. The teenager was found hanging from the ceiling in her room on Saturday, 16 July.

The deceased has been identified as Nishanti.

“We have recovered a suicide note from her room; according to the note, she feared appearing for the NEET 2022 exam,” the Ariyalur police said.

Suicide note

In her suicide note, the girl wrote: “I’m sorry for coming to a conclusion and ending my life. Please come home and look after my mother and brother. You have raised me well, and I’m scared I may not fulfil your expectations; hence I’m ending my life.”

The NEET exam was scheduled for Sunday, 17 July.

Ariyalur inspector Gopinath told South First that the girl had passed her 12th from a private school in the district in 2021 and had scored 529 marks out of 600.

“She had appeared for the NEET examination last year but did not clear it,” the inspector added.

The officer further added that the girl was taking private classes from a coaching centre in Trichy for the 2022 NEET exams.

The girl’s body was handed over to her parents after postmortem. The Ariyalur police have registered a case under Section 174 CrPC.

The inspector added that the victim’s parents told them that they are not able to understand why the girl took such an extreme step as they never pressurised her to qualify for NEET.

Second in a week

Hardly a week earlier, another NEET 2022 aspirant from the state died by suicide on 6 July. The deceased was identified as Murali Krishna.

Police then said that the boy was appearing for the NEET examination for the second time. In his first attempt last year, he had scored 160 marks.
