The high voltage drama that preceded the arrest of BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar at Pamunur in Jangoan district continued on Wednesday, 24 August, when the BJP leader, who was taken to Karimnagar, resumed his Dharma Deeksha at his residence.
The police had arrested him while he was in Dharma Deeksha to protest the murder-attempt charges slapped on BJP activists who gathered in front of TRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavita’a residence in Hyderabad on Monday to seek action against her for her alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor scam.
In a related development, a BJP delegation called on Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and asked her to direct the government to allow Bandi Sanjay to continue his padayatra.
The BJP leader, on Wednesday, taking strong exception to the police for arresting him citing lack of permission for the protest, resumed his Deeksha, even as party workers across the state, including Hyderabad, organised similar demonstrations.
Meanwhile, the Telangana High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on the lunch motion seeking permission for Bandi Sanjay to resume his padayatra.
‘Arrest to divert attention from Kavitha’
He arraigned Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for disrupting his Dharma Deeksha and padayatra with the intention of diverting the people’s attention from the allegations that are being made against his daughter Kavita.
“The police had cited lack of permission as the reason for arresting me. But I never took permission till now for my padayatra, which is in the third phase. How come they realised it now, unless they had other intentions,” he asked.
‘JP Nadda to attend Warangal rally’
He said that he would continue his Praja Sangrama Yatra come what may, and on its concluding day on 27 August would hold a huge public meeting in Warangal which would be addressed, among others, by BJP president JP Nadda.
He demanded that the chief minister should break his silence and make a statement on the alleged role of his daughter Kavitha in the liquor scam.
In the morning, before commencing his Deeksha with permission from the police, Bandi Sanjay offered pooja at the Mahalakshmi Temple in Karimnagar.
The police remained on alert as scores of BJP activists visited his residence to express solidarity with him and take part in his protest. With TRS workers also riled at Bandi Sanjay, a large force was deployed at the BJP state president’s house.
