5 unique restaurants in Hyderabad you can choose from for your next outing

Hyderabad is a foodie’s paradise, with a wide range of authentic delicacies as well as mouthwatering adaptations of Western food.

The city currently has the perfect weather for catching up with friends alongside a warm beverage. But just coffee and cakes won’t do: A quirky and unusual theme will only add to the experience.

Theme restaurants are quite the rage right now, so here are some Instagram-worthy theme places for your next outing:

Comic Social

Comic enthusiasts Sandeep Pattam and Rohit Madadi got together and opened this cafe for all the comics lovers out there.

The place has a library full of comic books and manga for everyone to read.

The venue also hosts a wide range of events — from standup comedy to discussion on comics and books, and even fan events.

Pattam told South First, “The pandemic played spoilsport and we had to shut down soon after we opened, but we have a lot of events planned in the next few months.”

He added: “We created this cafe keeping comic and manga lovers in mind, so they can get together and share a common interest and discuss.”

The librarian, Krishna, recommends the Lotus Biscoff Lava Cake, which goes very well with one of their variety-flavoured special teapots.

The Gallery Cafe

If you’re looking for a quiet way to spend an afternoon, try the Gallery Cafe. It has a serene atmosphere and is surrounded by art, making it the perfect place for art lovers.

The cafe reopened recently after the pandemic, and has renovated itself with new art.

The ground floor is an open gallery that displays local artists and their artwork.

Harsh, whose family owns the gallery, told South First, “We support local artists from all over the country, and have displayed their art all over the cafe. The tables and chairs used in the cafe are also art pieces, and they are all for sale.”

And with their expansive menu — which includes coffee, hot chocolates, Bombay sandwiches, pasta, and refreshments — you’ll be well fed, too!

Ohri’s Gufaa

Ohri’s themed restaurants are well known in Hyderabad, but this jungle-themed restaurant — also known as Gufaa Ohri’s Cuisine Court — in Basheer Bagh is a must-visit.

Founded in 1998, Gufaa welcomes you into a cave with dim lights and spooky noises, where the decor reminds you of the wilderness. The place is surrounded by greenery and animal installations.

The place specializes in North Indian and Mughlai delicacies. It also has Chinese on the first floor and fast food on the ground floor, but unfortunately, these do not carry the same theme.

Gismat Jail Theme Mandi Restaurant

Fancy a meal in prison? This jail-themed restaurant in Kukatpally serves its guests inside a jail cell.

The waiters serve you wearing prison clothes, and some cells have no chairs or tables, adding to the ambience.

Manager Madhav told South First, “We also offer fine dining for those who do not prefer the cell, but many visit us for the cells and willingly wait for hours for their turn.”

The eatery serves Arabic food and offers a variety of dishes such as Juicy Mutton Mandi, Alfa Mandi, and Arabic Fish.

Kapoor’s Cafe

Kapoor’s cafe, a Bengaluru favourite, recently opened an outlet in Hyderabad.

This colourful place reminds you of any dhaba in Punjab.

The seating arrangement has the traditional manji (cots) on artificial grass and round pillows, with the food served on wooden planks set across these cots.

Arpit Kapoor, the owner, told South First, “We create the ultimate experience for every North Indian who is away from home. We serve authentic plates and big glasses of lassi, and have charpais to sit on.”

For first-timers, he recommended the Flavours of Paratha and Maharaja Thali, which is served on a plate that is two feet in diameter and contains around 14 items.

If you are looking to add more fun to an outing, these themed cafes and restaurants in Hyderabad could just be what you need.
