Hyderabad: Madrasa teacher arrested for sodomising 14-year-old boy

Hyderabad Police arrests 21-year-old Madrasa teacher for sodomizing a 14-year-old boy.

The Telangana Police late evening on Saturday, 3 September, arrested a Madrasa teacher for allegedly sodomising a minor boy in Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad City Police identified the accused madrasa teacher as 21-year-old Qasim. The madrasa is located in Santosh Nagar.

A senior police officer from the Santosh Nagar Police Station told South First, “The victim’s parents lodged a complaint with us against the madrasa teacher on Saturday.”

He added that the victim’s parents learnt about the incident only after the minor informed them about his ordeal the same day.

“The victim’s parents told us that the boy was sexually abused for around two months by the madrasa teacher,” said the police officer.

He officer added that the police arrested the teacher and booked him under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and IPC Section 377 (sex with minors and non-consensual sexual act).

Under Section 4 of the POCSO Act, a penetrative sexual assault on a child below the age of 16 amounts to a minimum imprisonment of 20 years and can extend up to the rest of the natural life.

Sodomy is an act of performing unnatural or abnormal sexual intercourse with a person, which can be anal or oral.

The accused has been sent to 15-day judicial remand and is currently lodged in Chanchalguda Central Jail.

Hyderabad 4th highest in child abuse cases

The 2021 NCRB report states that Hyderabad is among the top four metro cities with the highest number of registered child abuse cases.

The city registered the most number of registered cases under the POCSO Act for the second consecutive year.

According to the NCRB’s Crime in India-2021 report, a total of 403 cases under the POCSO Act were registered in 2021 in the Telangana capital, while 318 cases were registered in 2020.

The report stated that Chennai topped the list in South India, with a total of 435 cases of sexual abuse crimes against children registered in 2021.

As per the NCRB report, Delhi topped the list in the country, with a total of 2,584 cases in two years, followed by Mumbai.
