Mild tension prevailed during the Ganesh immersion procession at the Mozamjahi Market in Hyderabad on Friday, 9 September, after a Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader snatched the mic from a speaker in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Hyderabad.
The TRS leader was identified as Nanda Kishore, and he objected to Sarma’s presence on the stage, amid allegations that Sarma had made vulgar statements against Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
Police personnel on the stage immediately took Nanda Kishore into custody, and he was taken to a police station.
The Assam chief minister arrived in the city on Thursday on the invitation of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi.

TRS women workers protested the arrest of their leader and raised slogans against the BJP in front of the stage.
They asked the police to release their leader unconditionally. These women were also taken into custody.
Strongly condemning the incident, BJP MLA Eatela Rajendra told the reporters that “it is clearly a security failure.”
“A local TRS leader barging onto the Ganesh Utsav Committee stage and dismantling the mike while the chief guest for the event — Assam Chief Minister Hemanth Biswas Sarma — was on stage is very confrontational. This act has also breached the security protocol of the Assam chief minister,” said K Krishna Sagar Rao, chief spokesperson of the Telangana unit of the BJP, in a statement.
He added that the BJP is demanding that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao should clarify whether the rise of TRS leaders’ physical attacks on BJP leaders was “his party ‘s new official political agenda”.
Telangana minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, while expressing displeasure over the incident, said: “It is not good for the Assam chief minister to use vulgar language during the address, and it is not the right time to give a political speech during a shobhayatra. The state government has set up at least 17 stages from the Old City to the Tank Bund for people to witness the Ganesh immersion processions.”
Earlier in the day, Sarma offered prayers at the Bhagyalakshmi temple abutting the historic Charminar, amid tight security
