Dozens of youngsters protesting over Raja Singh’s comments arrested

Youth gathered at Shalibanda raising slogans demanding Raja Singh’s arrest over his derogatory comments on Prophet Muhammad.

As many as 50 youths were arrested by South Zone Hyderabad police for protesting at Shaliband against suspended BJP MLA Raja Singh on 24 August 2022. Raja Singh, on 22 August, allegedly made derogatory comments on Prophet Muhammad inviting criticism from the Muslim community. He was arrested the next morning but was let out on bail in the evening. Following this, youth gathered at Old City’s Shalibanda raising slogans and demanding Raja Singh’s arrest. 

The protesters gathered at the Shahalibanda crossroad at 7 am burned the effigy of Raja Singh.

“We are going to continue the protest till Raja Singh has been put behind the bars. He has made blasphemous comments against our Prophet. It’s not the first time he has made such comments. If he is on bail, he will make the some comments again,” a protester told South First.

More than 100 police personnel gathered at the protest site at around 10:30 am and an hour later, the protestors arrested and taken to Kanchanbag police station in two vans.

Top police officers including Additional Commissioner of Police (crime) AR Srinivas and Deputy Commissioner of Police P Chaitanya monitored the situation from the protest site.
